Kotor Town Walls
The vibe
Twelve hundred steps up. Worth every one.
Kotor's town walls are among the best-preserved medieval fortification systems in the Mediterranean, climbing nearly 1,300 steps from the old town floor to the Fortress of Saint John at 280 metres. The walk takes one to two hours depending on pace, with the old town spreading below as you climb and the Boka Bay opening wider with every switchback. The view from the top is the one most people came to Kotor to find.
What we love
- A route that rewards the effort — views that reorganise how you think about the country.
- Well-marked and documented enough to attempt confidently, wild enough to still feel earned.
- Best in shoulder season when the coast is hot and the peaks are clear.
